It never fails to amaze me the optimism of the
people of this country. One day recently, I was glad to be
working inside as the snow was being blown so hard it was
coming down horizontally. Any feelings of worry that perhaps I
was in the wrong line of work for our climate were quickly
dispelled by the phone ringing. It was a man phoning to enquire
about our design services:
"Well you see," he explained, "we'd like a place to sit
outside..."
I was (almost) lost for words, and I thought to myself
"I want to live in their part of the world !!!"
Eventually when I did get to see them, I discovered that
it was an extremely exposed site and the weather could only
have been worse at their house on that day. I concluded that
people don't let the weather put them off - we always look
forward to warm summer days - even if they aren't here for
